Johnny Depp said he was 'truly humbled' to have won his defamation case against ex-wife Amber Heard, with the Pirates of the Caribbean star receiving $10.35 million in damages.
The jury reached a unanimous decision in favour of Depp on Wednesday, with Heard ordered to pay her ex-husband USD$10.35 million in damages."Speaking the truth was something that I owed to my children and to all those who have remained steadfast in their support of me,” he said in a statement posted on Instagram.Heard, who counter-sued for $100 million, was awarded USD$2 million after the jury found a Depp press agent called her allegations “an abuse hoax”.
Following the decision, Heard took to Instagram saying she was disappointed she had lost the right “to speak freely and openly”."I'm heartbroken that the mountain of evidence still was not enough to stand up to the disproportionate power, influence and sway of my ex-husband.The seven-member jury reached its verdict after 13 hours of deliberation over the course of three days, bringing an end to the six-week trial.
