They are experiencing the unique thrill that comes with being in the same room as the voice of a generation. That voice belongs to The Kid Laroi.
The Kid Laroi apologised to fans at Rod Laver Arena for cancelling last week’s concerts due to illness.Accompanied by a DJ, the artist born Charlton Kenneth Jeffrey Howard, stands atop a minimalist staircase, oozing charisma, inspiring an arena full of people to recite every syllable of his multi-billion streamed emo-rap compositions.
As he transitions seamlessly between the trademark flow and soulful croon that underpin his sound, it’s almost too easy to forget that this Sydney-raised superstar is only 18-years old.Billy Zammit With his shirt off and blonde locks flowing, he certainly looks the part of a teenager, but he controls the crowd like an entertainment veteran, whipping them into a frenzy as he races through a passionate set, bouncing so hard at times with the beat that you’d be forgiven for thinking the stage was a trampoline.He shares an anecdote of his recent health struggles and apologises profusely for last week’s last-minute cancellation.
The remainder of the night sees him prove it. Lost in the moment, he adds four rarely performed songs on the fly, when he forgets to invite a fan onstage for, he makes good on a pre-show promise by inviting her up to join him and playing it again.
