The good news about this week’s TheLastOfUs: we meet several happy characters! The bad news? We're left with the biggest cliffhanger yet.
Joel’s reunion with his brother sours when he learns Tommy and Marie are expecting a child together. He takes the news poorly, still distraught over his daughter’s death decades earlier. The timing of the news is bad, too. Joel wants Tommy to take over the quest to connect Ellie with the Fireflies, feeling like her survival chances are much greater with his spry younger brother.
In the morning, temperatures cool. Joel comes to Tommy and Ellie before they leave and offers her a choice: increase her survival odds by going with Tommy, or stick with Grandpa Joel. She doesn’t hesitate to pick the old man. Joel and Ellie’s resolve for one another strengthens, and only helps bolster the bond between Joel and his own brother. Tommy offers Joel a place to live when the mission’s over. Joel is more than happy to accept.
