Network Ten and their streaming partner Paramount Plus are making a joint bid for the entire AFL broadcasting package from the end of 2024. AFL AFLW

The Age

As part of the same company, Network Ten and Paramount Plus have the advantage of being able to pitch for the entire package of AFL games - including AFLW - in one joint bid. This differs from the incumbent broadcasters, Seven and Foxtel , with the former owning three and a half games per round on free to air, and Foxtel having five and a half matches. Seven has exclusive rights to the grand final.

Industry sources say that Paramount Plus, as a subscriber service like Foxtel, would have the lion’s share of games each round, with Ten likely to hold a similar portion to Seven in the current arrangement. The bulk of the money would likely come from Paramount Plus, which currently charges $8.99 per month for a subscription.

Industry sources are adamant that Foxtel - which relies heavily on AFL, NRL and cricket to drive subscriptions via Fox Sports - will be desperate to retain the broadcast rights to the AFL and will be forced to pay accordingly.
