"The recent astrophysics decadal survey talked about the need to understand what the dark ages looked like, and that to do this kind of work, a global single-receiver measurement is required," Bandyopadhyay said."That's exactly what we're proposing." At least, that's the plan. The Lunar Crater Radio Telescope is currently in phase II of NASA's Innovative Advanced Concepts development program, through which it has received $500,000 of funding for maturing the necessary technology. But that's a far cry from the multi-billion dollar budget that would be required to make the telescope mission a success.
"What we have to do right now is present a very strong case why this should be done," Bandyopadhyay said."So hopefully when the next decadal survey comes around, we have put enough time and effort into this that they recommend the mission."
