Mail A self-proclaimed nerd and photographer has managed to capture a stunning photo of the Moon without the help of high-powered imaging tools. Andrew McCarthy captured an 81MP picture of the Moon using a Sony Alpha a7II mirrorless digital camera and $250 ZWO astronomy camera. The said the highly detailed image was actually the combination of 50,000 separate photos. The ultra-HD image is 9000px by 9000px.
“Each ’tile’ was a stack of the best 50 per cent of 2000 images captured with the ZWO.” Mr McCarthy said the stars and dark portion of the moon were captured using his Sony. “The dark side is around 13 tiles, each with the best of around 50 images,” he said. “The stars were captured with a stack of 50 shots with the Sony.” The image is sharp enough to see the Moon’s surface.
