New data has revealed that a city in the UK experienced the most congestion in the world on one day in February, beating off competition from the likes of Los Angeles and Bangkok
Monday, February 10 2020 - a day that for some will have been just like any other. But for many, it was a day spent sitting in traffic that didn't seem like it would ever subside. It was also the day that Nottingham set an unwanted record, one it may never set again.
The severe congestion was primarily down to damaged steelwork found on Clifton Bridge, resulting in the closure of part of the A52 heading east on Thursday, February 6. In 2019, Bangalore led the congestion rankings with an average of 71 percent, whereas Nottingham's congestion more than doubled Bangalore's highest level of 81 percent that Monday.
The closure was in effect between A453 Clifton Lane and A453 Queens Drive. One lane heading westbound towards the city and the Queen's Medical Centre, as well as the eastbound entry slip from the hospital, was also closed.
