Help keep family & friends informed by sharing this articleThe sight of two, dappled-grey harness horses trotting down the main street of one of South Australia's biggest cities, pulling an ornate carriage, is at stark contrast to the modern surrounds and bustling traffic.
As a child, Rob had pleaded with his parents for a horse but it wasn't until he was in his 30s and confronted with some life-changing news, that he finally got into the saddle. "A lot of people who have my sort of passion for horses always claim that we were born a generation too late," he says.Rather than learning by trial and error, Rob sought out the best "old minds" from across South Australia and Victoria to help him learn and pursue his passion for carriage driving.
Rob along with his wife, Judy, are now passing on their love of horses and the skills of carriage driving and horsemanship to their children and grandchildren. In all the years seeing the joy and excitement on the faces of those who come to experience a carriage ride, Rob says there are a few memories that stand out.
