Imagine a world where autonomous cars, shuttles, pod-cars and electric drone-style aircraft take you wherever you want and the driver is AI. You provide the destination and the AV does the rest. Sounds like science fiction? That's the magic of autonomous vehicles, and it's coming.
Yet, while the technology is groundbreaking, the methods used to usher it into our lives are rooted in well-established engineering and planning methodologies. This article is about some basic considerations on where to start with your AV project, and make no mistake, you should be starting now. This will be a long transition process, and this technology is worth the effort. It will save lives, time and money. Listen up, 'cause I'm about to lay down some wisdom on AV projects.First off, get yourself educated. This is no joke. You need to know the ins and outs of this technology, both the good and the bad.
Learning about the AV tech, as well as the suppliers and their capabilities, is a great place to start. That will naturally take you to planning and deployment processes . Remember, AVs areof AI-enabled robot vehicles. It's not remotely like anything most people have experienced. But fear not, there is a growing community of pros to help.Second, wrapping your head around the planning and deployment process may be a challenge. Many just want to buy a vehicle and hit the start button.
I frequently use APMs as an example of the work involved in deploying an AV fleet. Those who have that experience totally get it. Those who don't just need a bit more coaching. I always suggest collaboration. Why try to figure this out by yourself or with an isolated group of AV newbies? So that leads us to item three.Third, don't be afraid to ask for help. This is a complex and rapidly changing field, so it's important to have a team of trusted advisors on your side.
