László Nemes, has become the latest Hollywood figure to weigh in on the speech given byWhile accepting the award last week for best international film, Glazer delivered a set of pre-written remarks in which he compared his Holocaust film to the current conflict in Gaza. He was accompanied on stage by producer James Wilson and executive producer Len Blavatnik.

Glazer and Wilson have been explicit that their film, while telling a specific story about the Holocaust, was intended to encourage audiences to think about current events. “Had he embraced the responsibility that comes with a film like that, he would not have resorted to talking points disseminated by propaganda meant to eradicate, at the end, all Jewish presence from the Earth.”The Anti-Defamation League has called the speech “morally indefensible”, while the US Holocaust survivors’ foundation condemned it in an open letter.

Glazer’s speech has also received praise, including from activists calling for a ceasefire in Gaza. Stefanie Fox, the executive director of Jewish Voice for Peace toldlast week that Glazer “wants to apply the lessons of the Holocaust to the horrors that ‘confront us in the present’ … Glazer speaks for the massive and growing number of Jews who honour our histories by joining our Palestinian siblings in their struggle for freedom and justice.”Glazer saying: “He stood up and told the truth.
