It is within the Forest of Bowland and in the shadows of famous Pendle Hill
Barley Village sits neatly among hills and fields at the foot of Pendle Hill. It's a curious and colourful place with plenty to offer despite its small stature.
This award-winning happy hamlet used to be known as Barelegh, which means an infertile lea or meadow and in 1324 was the original name of Barley. It is a subtle nod to the village's agricultural past and the existing workers' cottages and remains of the mills. It is posited between two reservoirs and features a due of pubs and cafe. Barley is surrounded by a network of walking paths and is also the starting point of Pendle Sculpture Trail.Barley Village, Lancashire.
