Everyone knows Miranda Priestly’s famous speech about “cerulean blue” in The Devil Wears Prada. While, of course, the movie gives a loose depiction of the fashion industry , the trickle-down effect that Priestly waxes lyrical about is entirely accurate. Take last year’s “pop of red” trend, which made its debut on the runways of The Row and Ferragamo, and then was swiftly embraced by fashion folks on the front row, before finally proliferating on the high street the following season.

At the brand’s pre-fall 2024 show, we saw a sculptural, asymmetric blouse hit the runway in a brilliant shade of cobalt, paired with oversized black tailored trousers and an equally roomy clutch bag. Bye bye quiet luxury, it’s been nice knowing you. So what’s the secret to making this feel-good styling hack work for spring? The first thing to say is, don’t shy away from a colour clash as, unlike the pop of red, cobalt looks its best when paired with similarly extroverted shades.
