The race between Liberal MP Tim Wilson and teal independent Zoe Daniel remains one of the hottest contests of the federal election

Behind the counter of her shop in the bayside hamlet of Black Rock, south-east of Melbourne, Ms Fox is proud the doors stayed open and her staff kept their jobs through the worst of COVID-19.

“I don’t necessarily agree with what Mr Morrison has performed over the past few years but I am a little bit untrusting of independents and Greens. I believe there’s two major parties and that’s how the system works best in Australia.”Goldstein has voted conservative since Federation. Ms Daniel would be the first female MP for the seat named for suffragist and feminist campaigner Vida Jane Goldstein.

YouGov polling published last week found Mr Wilson’s primary vote had fallen to 40 per cent, giving Ms Daniel a 52-48 lead, on a two-party preferred basis.
