The Duke and Duchess of Sussex later joined the Prince and Princess of Wales for a walkabout at Windsor Castle, where they spoke to members of the public gathered at the gates, and took in the tributes that have been mounting since Thursday. A spokesperson for William and Kate said Harry and Meghan had joined them at the Prince of Wales’s invitation.
“I thank her for the kindness she showed my family and me,” William said of his grandmother. “And I thank her on behalf of my generation for providing an example of service and dignity in public life that was from a different age, but always relevant to us all. My grandmother famously said grief is the price we pay for love. All the sadness we will feel in the coming weeks will be testament to the love we felt for our extraordinary Queen.
