She is troubled by the current wave: “To say it’s disappointing is an understatement,” Bennett says, pointing out the BA.5 variant that is driving the spike in infections is escaping the immunity built by those who contracted BA.2 more efficiently than hoped. While the Omicron variants have proven persistent and resistant, Bennett believes we should be grateful that “it’s not a brand new variant”.
