Rugby Australia announced a three-year deal. A secret player option could see Suaalii stay in rugby until the end of 2029 on a monster deal worth more than $8 million.

Joseph Suaalii’s monster three-year deal with Rugby Australia includes a secret $4 million clause that could extend his time in rugby union until the end of 2029.

The option, secured by his agent Isaac Moses, allows his client the right to trigger a further two years on his contract if he chooses, and is worth at least the amount of the third season of his deal, taking the contract value to more than $8 million over five years. Part of the attraction of playing for the Wallabies was the chance to represent his country against the British and Irish Lions on their tour of Australia next year. The guaranteed three-year deal also includes a World Cup on home soil in 2027.If Suaalii triggers his player option for 2028 and 2029, it would provide him the opportunity of representing Australia in rugby sevens at the Olympic Games in Los Angeles in four years’ time.

Suaalii’s agent Isaac Moses is known for inserting clauses into the contracts of his clients in the NRL.He recently used a player option in rookie sensation Blaize Talagi’s contract to manoeuvre a deal that saw him leave the Eels to join premiers Penrith next year.
