Alice Wells is on a mission to match innovative businesses – such as this start-up founded by a leading makeup artist – with international investors.
When investing, Wells looks for authenticity and capability. “I met with someone recently who said, ’We’re faster, we’re better, we can copy products easily, we have heaps of capital … but you know what we don’t have? Ideas.”
Morris says that what she loves about Alice “is that she never tells me my dream is wrong, or out of reach”., selling a minority stake of her fragrance business, Vyrao, to Estee Lauder.“It’s a bit of a hippie brand,” says Wells of Vyrao . “Vyrao is very particular, everything is done so beautifully. People who approach their products in that way are rare. Fragrance can be dull – you wear what your mum wore, or you see a celebrity in an ad, and you buy it.
