“Because Sweden sits at a higher latitude than the Alps, it has a longer snow season,” explained Professor Liz Bentley of the Royal Meteorological Society. “SwedishYou don’t get the altitude variety of Alpine resorts in Sweden, and the days are chillier and shorter, but lights are switched on over the slopes each afternoon allowing skiing into early evening.
For a family of four booking in February, a week’s stay in Kläppen would cost about Skr15,600 in total, including discounts for booking early and online. In the Alps, the cost for the same month for the chalet alone is easily £1,000 then around £500-£600 for passes and £200-plus for ski rental . Family-run Kläppen offered the most local, homely feel, from the smell of cinnamon buns wafting from the cafés to the way the Erikssons seemed to know every guest. A one-week pass at Kläppen also gives you a day’s access to the 49 runs at the Stöten resort and vice versa.
