CROWN THEM! 👑👑👑 Nick Kyrgios and Thanasi Kokkinakis are GRAND SLAM CHAMPIONS! STORY 👉
The match got underway just after 10pm local time, with the players needing to wait for Ash Barty’s post-match celebrations to end.He then bizarrely messed with a security guard using his water bottle. When the match got underway things quickly got fiery between Kyrgios and Purcell.“There has been a little bit of talk before this match from Purcell about how he thinks Kyrgios and Kokkinakis have gone about things during the tournament. Just a little bit more put into that forehand from Nick.
“We know how well Nick and Thanasi serve, and Matthew and Max both serve really well but also the coverage and the positioning and the awareness of each other on their service game.”The Special Ks threatened a break at 4-4, rushing to 0-30 and then taking Purcell to deuce for the second time in the match.
But they were unable to break, as were Ebden and Purcell when they took Kyrgios to deuce on his serve. The first break points of the match came in the ensuing game, with the Special Ks up 15-40 on Ebden’s serve, but Kokkinakis’ passing shot on the second opportunity just went long. They earned a third but it went just as quickly as it came.
But then a fourth chance saw Ebden volley straight into the net, giving the Special Ks the chance to serve for the first set - and Kokkinakis held to love for a 7-5 win.
