TikTok trends will come and go – but maybe not before the damage has been doneAnother week, another TikTok trend. Now, Gen Z has moved on from sea shanties to the: videos posted by young, unemployed women who are financially supported by the men in their lives.
Labour undertaken by women in the domestic sphere, some of it invisible but plenty of it back-breakingly physical, has gone ignored for generations. If this trend was changing that, bringing overdue recognition of women’s work in the home and giving it new status, that would be reason for applause.
