The former police house is gated off from the busy Woodborough Road
You may have walked past it many a time but you might not know the history behind this striking pink building located off a busy city junction. Unlike the usual sombre look of a police station, Mapperley's old police house, located at the junction of Porchester Road and Woodborough Road, is painted half pink and is gated off from the main road.
Sites of former Nottinghamshire Police stations have been redeveloped over the years - including in Carlton and The Meadows. But some of the city's former police stations can still be found today - with this the case for Mapperley's old police station, at 649 Woodborough Road. "I can remember it when I lived in Thorneywood as a child, getting off the bus and going past it every day." The building became a police station in around 1904, according to reports.
