Thomas and Crow have both described their relationship as a friendship and have denied accusations Crow used his wealth and access to shape the Supreme Court.that he was advised by colleagues and others in the federal judiciary that “this sort of personal hospitality from close personal friends, who did not have business before the Court, was not reportable.”Among the recent revelations is Thomas’ unreported sale of residential properties in Savannah to Crow for more than $130,000 in 2014.
Thomas lived in the home during part of his childhood and it was still occupied by the justice’s mother when Crow made the purchase. Crow then paid for several renovations on the home, including a carport and roof and fence repairs, all while Thomas’ mother still occupied the property. By not disclosing the Savannah sale, Thomas appears to be in violation of the law, four ethics law experts told ProPublica..
