File image.There was also a drop in the number of people who died with non-contagious respiratory diseases. After social distancing measures came into effect, those health-vulnerable people were considerably less likely to be exposed to an infectious illness which would ultimately kill them.
”The person has an underlying condition which made them vulnerable to other things happening which ultimately led to their death.”While there were significant concerns around people’s mental health due to the financial stresses and isolation resulting from the pandemic, there was a fall in the number of suicides in 2020, Assoc Prof Bell said.
She believes the findings support the push for a “cultural change” which has been prompted by the pandemic.
