The Sydney women poised to join the NSW parliament l niltiac

On opposite ends of Sydney, two very different women are preparing to enter NSW parliament for the first time.

On her return she worked in corporate jobs then took a redundancy while on maternity leave and shifted gears to part-time work, managing her daughters’ “dancing, swimming, you name it”, performing in musicals on the side and volunteering for the school P&C. Wendy Lindsay said she thought"long and hard" about the impact on her family before running for parliament.Ms Lindsay said her community supported her as a woman in politics. “During the campaign so many women came up to me and said it’s so wonderful to have you as a woman run, and afterwards to congratulate me on being the first woman elected as member for East Hills,” she said.

“If we were purely just looking at merit alone women would already be at the table but the reality is there are all these other barriers that stop them.” “There’s never an ideal time to lose a parent but I’m incredibly grateful that my dad lived to see me elected,” Dr O’Neill said.
