The Teal independents are absorbed in an orgy of self-congratulation, unaware they will have no power in parliament and have unleashed a more right-wing Liberal party that will return with a vengeance in three years time, writes Joe Hildebrand.

As it turns out it appears I am far more in touch with the mood of the mainstream Australian electorate than I am with the political whims of eastern suburbs and bayside millionaires.

But instead the Teals are still absorbed in an orgy of self-congratulation, apparently unaware that they will have no power in the parliament because Labor will not need them yet, and have unleashed a more right-wing Liberal party that will be more of a threat to Labor in the future.
