For someone whose career looked stuffed once his more talented big brother took his Oasis ball and buggered off, Liam Gallagher has made a pretty good fist of things.Sure, there have been missteps – I don’t think you’ll be hearing many Beady Eye songs at this show – but the Gallagher who was always especially blessed in the vocal and charisma departments has improved as a songwriter over the years.
He’s still not in Noel’s league, so let’s not get too carried away, but Liam has three solid solo albums to his name. The latest,, features songs co-written with Dave Grohl and Vampire Weekend’s Ezra Koenig, so the younger Gallagher is clearly doing something right.Of course, he knows which side his bread is buttered: live, you will hear him play a lot of Oasis and, given a proper reunion of that band seems wholly unlikely, it’ll be worth braving the lesser solo stuff just for that.
But the timing has worked out rather well for the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, and thus for us fans, and not just because the New York trio’s first album since 2013 is ripe for previewing. We’ll soon once again get to see them rip through tunes from the searing alt-rock of their
