The state’s tourism operators are expecting a bumper Christmas season, but the Gold and Sunshine coasts have seen a drop in bookings in favour of higher-end beach resorts.
Queensland’s tourism operators are expected to have a bumper Christmas season, with the state already knocking out the rest of Australia with skyrocketing flight and accommodation bookings.
“We are still seeing families come in from Melbourne accounting for 35 per cent of bookings to Queensland and Sydney accounting for 29 per cent of bookings to Queensland, which are very similar shares from the previous year,” he said. “Interestingly Queenslanders have opted to travel more domestically this year as domestic travel has increased by 11 per cent year-on-year,” he said.Of the company’s bookings, the top international destinations Queenslanders are travelling to include Auckland, Bali, Fiji, Queenstown and Christchurch.QTIC boss Brett Fraser said the state’s tourism sector was expected to end the year with a strong holiday period.
