Among the most popular items during the lockdown period were the Star Wars Millennium Falcon Lego set ($294), the Technic Land Rover Defender ($283) and Barbie Dreamhouse ($215).
Growth in toy sales during the coronavirus lockdown eclipsed growth last Christmas with dollar sales soaring by 80 per cent when stage two restrictions were introduced in March compared to the same time the previous year.
"The last few months have been anything but normal and results of toy sales had been unprecedented," she said. "Whilst there are many unknowns still to come this year, we know that toys have always been an extremely resilient industry." They can't travel so much now so sales of activity toys and things to do for inquiring minds have seen an increase," he said. It stated: "Logistical delays and reduced manufacturing activity in China is also anticipated to strongly inhibit retailers' ability to source industry products."
