Recently, I made the long journey from the Northern Territory to Sydney, leaving my new home in a remote community to return to the one I had left behind a year earlier.
But after a couple of days, my body began to crave food that was not only simpler, but also smaller. What I really wanted was a homely, just-like-Mum-makes-it spaghetti bolognese. I really wanted this spaghetti bolognese. After 15 minutes of pep-talking myself , I walked confidently to the pub counter, ready to order off the kid’s menu. My resolve instantly dissipated when I was face-to-face with the gruff publican. “What’ll it be?” he grunted, arms braced against the bar, his no-nonsense demeanour reducing my confidence to a puddle.
