Visitors are welcomed by the Miniland area, where millions of Lego bricks recreate towns and cities in Denmark, Scandinavia and beyond. Our hotel room has a front row outlook, which is utterly magical at night when illuminated by thousands of tiny lights and the crowds have gone home. Little plane models at a mini Billund airport taxi along the runway while aquatic scenes recreate Copenhagen’s 17-century Nyhavn waterfront, Bergen harbour in Norway and Sweden’s picturesque Gota Canal.
Back in the hotel there are more Lego bricks in the room, a huge dragon and treehouse in reception and the grounds are green and spacious – but there’s plenty more to see nearby.In the heart of Billund, the modular, primary-colour roofed Lego House is like a supersized brick creation and is a hands-on, interactive monument to the brand.
