As courtroom 8A of Sydney’s John Maddison Tower convened on Tuesday afternoon, the judge overseeing Jarryd Hayne’s third sexual assault trial said he had “heard nothing” more from the jury.

Armed with an all-female legal team comprising Cunneen, barrister Claire O’Neill and solicitor Lauren MacDougall, Hayne unsuccessfully attempted to clear his name at his third trial on sexual assault charges dating back to the night of the 2018 NRL grand final. Shoulder to shoulder, and spreading jackets across seats to save them, more than a dozen family and friends including Hayne’s wife, mother Jodie Hayne and father Manoa Thompson filled two rows behind the 35-year-old.
