As Australia is reduced to cinders, artist and climate activist OlafurEliasson says the international community is deeply disturbed by our indifference to climate change.
In Berlin as in London and Tokyo, the screens were fulgurating with distressing imagery: Albania shaken by earthquake, Venice drowning and Australia burning to a cinder.
From his adopted home of Berlin, artist Olafur Eliasson – one of the world’s foremost conceptual artists – was watching on in utter dismay. “Australia underestimates – and perhaps doesn’t really care – but the whole world is watching,” Eliasson begins, his tenor considered but with a palpable sense of urgency.
