Star singers Chris Martin and Ed Sheeran are weighing up whether to travel to Australia for Shane Warne’s Victorian state funeral, while Elton John has dedicated one of hisas soon as possible before he is honoured at a state funeral, which could be weeks away. The MCG is expected to host the public service, although Warne’s manager, James Erskine, said on Tuesday a date had not yet been confirmed.
Martin, the Coldplay frontman, and Sheeran, the British singer and a close friend of Warne, are among the high-profile musicians, celebrities and cricketers from Australia and around the world making plans to farewell the man who captivated the cricketing globe and went on to make a splash in retirement.
The playing dates of the men’s tour of Pakistan, which ends on April 5, and the women’s World Cup in New Zealand are also a consideration, for the ceremony is unlikely to be held on a day when the Australian teams are taking to the field.
