For a pair of teams that have been ranked in the state poll a majority of the season, it’s normal to start thinking ahead.
The Highlanders took the win 25-19, 25-19, 20-25, 25-22 to remain unbeaten in district play and a series sweep of the Tigers. With the Conroe win in the third set came a rare moment against the Highlanders. MaxPreps indicates that the Tigers hadn’t won a set over The Woodlands since 2007. But records which Conroe coach Charvette Brown possess indicate that it possibly hasn’t happened since at least 2000, if not farther back than that.
“It’s awesome and it's the competition we love to see in our district,” Wade said. “In years past you’ve had that. Three, maybe even four state-ranked teams going at it. I think that’s why our district keeps going far in the playoffs, making regional tournaments. It’s because we have the competition here that we see.”Kills by five different Highlanders, including a pair by Marjorie Johnson, helped them out to a 9-3 start.
