The Woodlands Christian Academy will start construction on its $10.8 million fine arts...
“I am so grateful for the generous support of our families and friends. The addition of this learning space will further enable our students to grow as leaders for Christ and to flourish — spiritually, intellectually, creatively, physically and socially,” head of school Julie Ambler said in a release.
The fine arts center will host the largest black box theatre in the Houston metro that will seat up to 400, according to the school. The facility also will include art and dance studios, choir and band halls, one additional classroom, offices, a lobby and reception area and spaces to display student artworks. The outdoor amphitheater also will double as a retention pond.
The one-story facility will be on the west side of campus near the Nehemiah Academic Center Middle School. The building and outdoor amphitheater make up phase one of the fine arts project; phase two is expected to include an additional auditorium.“I want to extend my thanks to everyone who made this day possible,” Director of Fine Arts Phil Sweger said. “This building will provide a dedicated space in which our students can create and perform for many years to come.
The Woodlands Christian Academy hosted a groundbreaking ceremony May 30 and construction is expected to begin this summer alongside smaller maintenance and construction projects. The project is expected to take just over a year, with a targeted completion date by the fall of 2024.
