The Highlanders saw its 11-match win streak end as they played in their fifth state...

The Woodlands' Ella Lewis gets a shot past Dripping Springs' Riley Certian , Ashley Euston and Mackenzie Plante in the first set of a Class 6A state semifinal match during the UIL State Volleyball Championships at the Curtis Culwell Center, Friday, Nov. 18, 2022, in Garland.GARLAND — The Woodlands didn’t go down without a fight late Friday night in the University Interscholastic League Class 6A semifinals.

“The theme for us every game is that we fight,” The Woodlands coach Terri Wade said. “I think these girls can say that even when we are down points and then in the end, point-for-point…I really didn’t think we could lose. They just have so much fight in them and they fight every single game. We’ve come back and we’ve won games from being down.”

“Going into the match, we thought about our gameplan and it was if we could control the first contact, I thought we were going to be in good shape,” Dripping Springs coach Michael Kane said. “I have confidence in the group we have. We have kids who can score from all angles. First contact has been our mantra all year.”The Woodlands grinded back and gained the lead for good at 18-17 as Makenzie Weddel put in a kill.
