Montgomery County law enforcement officials say crime is leveling off in The Woodlands after a spike in 2021 but fraud and scams are on the rise.

Thefts in other areas, both misdemeanor and felony, have dropped along with assault family violence, burglary of a motor vehicle and criminal mischief, according to the information from the sheriff’s office in a quarterly report. Most concerning, Holifield said is the increase in online scammers blackmailing teens to send nude photos through social media and then threatening to release those photos to friends and family if they don’t pay a certain amount.Conroe ISD Police Chief Matt Blakelock said he has seen a slight increase as well.
