Former Labor minister Graham Richardson says there’s no need for the Voice to Parliament.

“I can’t see the need for it, I can’t see what it will accomplish as far as I’m concerned, there’s no need for anyone to have this so-called Voice to the Parliament,” he told Sky News host Sharri Markson.

“Our voice is our vote, and we get to vote for that parliament every three years – as far as I’m concerned, that’s the voice.”

The Victorian Bar Council has yet to announce formal support as it remains torn on a position. Mr Wood said when a Bar Council becomes political, “it risks damaging and degrading its institutional capacity to speak”. “Once you become a cheerleader for a political cause, then your ability to speak out on unpopular causes is diminished,” he told Sky News host Peta Credlin. “They shouldn’t be entering into that field.”
