A Red Flag Warning is in effect for areas surrounding Bexar County on Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. These areas include those along the Rio Grande, the Edwards Plateau and the Hill Country. The warning comes as the boundary between moist Gulf of Mexico air and dry air from the southwestern United States moves across the region Wednesday morning. Gusty winds to the west and southwest and low humidity will help to create critical fire weather conditions. The NWS warns people to avoid any activity that could inadvertently cause a wildfire. Such activities include campfires or burn piles, use of tools that create sparks like chainsaws, improper disposal of cigarettes and the dragging of trailer chains. The weather agency also warns drivers not to park vehicles on grass during critical fire conditions, as the heat from the vehicle could ignite dry grasses.
Affected counties included in the Red Flag warning include Bandera, Blanco, Dimmit, Edwards, Frio, Gillespie, Kendall, Kinney, Maverick, Medina, Real, Uvalde, Val Verde, and Zavala.
