Junior lawyers tell us why they refuse to go back to the office even though their Big Law firms require it

Almost half of the 100 richest US law firms are requiring people to return to the office.Law firms, conscious of young lawyers' bargaining power, are often afraid to push back.

"If they are overly hard-nosed, I will leave and find firms that have remote-work flexibility," he told Insider. Big Law firms across the country are urging their lawyers to get back to the office. But some junior lawyers are simply refusing, banking on their newfound leverage in the red-hot labor market. Four such lawyers spoke to Insider on the condition that identifying details not be used. They said they felt that they have more power to say"no" than ever before, citing colleagues and former classmates who got job offers in less than a month or landed hefty signing bonuses.

"The vast majority of our associates [are] coming into the office a couple times a week and then working from home," he said, speaking from a Boston office that he estimated was 25% full. He said that women with children seemed to be especially grateful for the flexibility the firm offered.
