One client loved the consultants from IT advisory firm ASG Group so much they paid them a 10 per cent bonus to ensure they stayed on the project.
ASG Group, which is owned by Tokyo-listed Nomura Research Institute, provides consulting and information technology services to public and private sector clients including the Department of Industry, Science, Energy and Resources, National Australia Bank, Western Power, Telstra and Qantas.
“Clients are increasingly aware of their reliance on ASG’s consultants to be able to deliver their projects on time and successfully. As a result of this talent shortage, we have seen a number of our clients taking unusual and proactive measures to lock in ASG’s consultants,” Mr Langenbach said.In another example, a separate client agreed to a longer-than-normal contract extension to lock in a specific team of advisers.
Mr Langenbach said the firm had made a number of changes to its hiring conditions to attract and retain staff, allowing flexible work from any combination of home and office, and the option to work remotely from anywhere in the world for as long as three months. “When conducting proposals or extensions to engagements, [firms] they will try not to promise certain individuals but rather skill sets, especially at the junior levels. This also helps to protect the consultants, allowing them to work on a diversity of projects and clients.”
