Mr Ma’anit said: “My cousin Tsachi was taken from a kibbutz on the“His daughter Maayan – 18 years old – was hiding out in a bomb shelter in the kibbutz, and they broke in and murdered her. Mr Ma’anit added that he has several young relatives – “babies, 18 or 19-year-olds” – who are reservists and have now been called up to fight in Gaza. He said his relatives are willing to fight, but which they are willing to do, but the family have now been left in fear that more of their loved-ones’ lives could be claimed by the conflict.
He said that another part of his family have already been through a similar heartbreak before, during the Second Intifada Palestinian uprising against Israel in 2002, “when my 16-year-old cousin Orly was blown up in a restaurant.”
