The earth remains scorched near a mailbox at the property’s edge, where a police vehicle was burnt out during the Trains’ attack on the two police crews that arrived on December 12 to investigate a missing person report centred on Nathaniel.After shooting the officers, the Trains lit a fire on their property, prompting neighbour Dare to rush to help during the commotion.
NSW police had asked Queensland police to check the Wieambilla property for Nathaniel after he went missing in Walgett in 2021. “I figured [Nathaniel] had to be on someone’s station or block that he knew and he was camping quietly ... he got to spend time in nature with himself and God.”Madelyn says Gareth sent her text messages in the family’s final hours claiming that people had been sent “to kill us”.
