A Victorian school principal said his students were devastated after a much-loved school bus driver died in a crash on Wednesday afternoon.
after it ran off the road just after 3.30pm and crashed into a tree near Kilmore, north of Melbourne.Assumption College principal Paul Finneran said the bus driver was a regular driver who the students knew well.One child was taken to Kilmore Hospital in a stable condition after being treated at the scene, Ambulance Victoria said. Police described their injuries as serious, but not life-threatening.
Kilmore carpenter Colby, who asked that his surname not be published, said he and other passers-by used a ladder to help pull frightened children out of the crashed bus. He was driving home about 3.40pm on Wednesday when he saw the bus, which looked like it had veered across the road and come to a stop near a paddock.The door of the bus was obstructed by a tree, so he and other passers-by broke the driver’s right side window.Thirty students were pulled from an overturned school bus. The driver died at the scene“Some of the younger ones were shaken up and in shock.
