AFL: Matthew Lloyd experienced a mixed bag when he went down to play a game for the Old Collegians in then Warrnambool league, courtesy of The Carlton Draft.
Essendon legend Matthew Lloyd has suited up strongly nearly 15 years since his retirement from the AFL.
Lloyd geared up as the second of six former AFL and AFLW players to make a long-awaited return to local football in 2024, all part of this year’s rendition of The Carlton Draft. Needless to say, the appeal of the Old Collegians to have his services in the one-off Warrnambool & District league match was sky-high, regardless of how long between set shots.
“Old Collegians were second-last on the ladder met this team in Round 3, lost by 10 goals - he’s 46 years old Lloydy, and Collegians won the game by 12 points,” Dunstall exclaimed.Lloyd finished the match with 11 disposals, six marks, three tackles and a goal up forward – with a check-side of sorts through the big sticks a highlight for the day.
