Snake catchers say it is becoming harder to find new homes for the reptiles as urban areas expand and the weather warms up.

"We obviously do get them in houses quite often, but … maybe one every 50 jobs is in a house, it's not as common as made out on TV."He said the warmer-than-usual winter combined with the hot start to spring had contributed to snakes being more active and well-fed.As native animals, snakes are protected by law.

"They're a bit like homing pigeons in a sense, they know every single little area, they've got the little dens, they've got the little hiding spots.""It is getting harder and harder for me to find an area where I can put a snake that is not going to run into a suburban situation … far enough away that it doesn't run into people and shovels and lawnmowers and cats and dogs and the whole gamut," Mr Cade said.
