Teens at Eastside High decry the recent stabbing at their school. Anti-violence advocates, police and school administrators say they're listening.
Leeaijah McFadden, 18, a senior at Eastside High School in Paterson, talks about the recent fatal stabbing that took place at the school on February 17, 2023. "It should've never happened," she said.A week and a half ago, students at Eastside High School in Paterson watched on as one of their classmates was fatally stabbed at dismissal on the sidewalk in front of their school.
One student, Leeaijah McFadden, 18, a senior, told me she was “one of the ones screaming ‘call 9-1-1, call 9-1-1!’” She says she came by the scene “a minute or two after it happened,” and along with a couple other students ran to the boy’s side to try “to hold pressure to the wound.” Another student, she says, “tried to wake him up” and was holding his neck as he lay on the ground bleeding.
