A new charter seeks to help solve employment issues that have plagued parts of the Australian population and held back the Australian workforce.
Australian unemployment is low compared with other nations around the world. But joblessness and underemployment are worryingly high in several regions and demographics across the country, says John Lydon, chairman of Generation Australia.
Generation Australia has crafted a charter that commits signatories to finding solutions to systemic unemployment facing some sectors of the community. TheseThe career charter for change is designed to challenge employers to think about the benefits of diversity and opportunities to hire from non-traditional pathways, said Malcolm Kinns, chief executive of Generation Australia.
“For example, in our disability support work program, we work with the Cerebral Palsy Alliance. And we also work directly with industry partners as well for specialised skills such as Microsoft or Salesforce,” Mr Kinns said. “We have a very demand-based approach. We understand exactly what the employer is looking for in terms of the technical skills, but also those behaviours and mindsets are essential to successfully engaging in a workplace,” Mr Kinns said
