BREAKING | Carlos De Oliveira, a Mar-a-Lago employee who has been accused of draining the estate’s pool in October—which flooded a room containing the club’s surveillance footage, is the third person charged in Trump’s Mar-a-Lago documents case.
Special counsel Jack Smith has named a third defendant in the criminal case connected to former President Donald Trump’s alleged mishandling of classified documents, according to a Thursday court filing.
The new defendant is Carlos De Oliveira, a Mar-a-Lago maintenance worker who has been accused of draining the Florida club’s pool in October—an act that flooded a room containing its surveillance video logs. De Oliveira was charged with conspiracy to obstruct justice, altering destroying, mutilating a document, and false statements. Also charged in the case alongside Trump last month was
his aide, Walt Nauta, who allegedly moved boxes containing classified records around Mar-a-Lago with De Oliveira’s help.Additional charges of obstruction and willful retention of national defense information were added to an indictment naming all three men on Thursday. It was filed almost immediately after De Oliveira was charged.
The superseding indictment alleged that the trio “requested that [an unnamed Trump employee] delete security camera at The Mar-a-Lago Club to prevent the footage from being provided to a federal grand jury.”
