Bill Shorten and Prime Minister Scott Morrison have agreed to suspend campaigning and political advertising on Good Friday and Anzac Day. 9News
It comes after the Opposition Leader wrote to the Prime Minister this morning requesting both parties cease adverts on both the 19th and 25th of April.9News has obtained the letter written to Mr Morrison this morning.
“This is about respecting the sacrifice of our Anzacs. And it’s about respecting the significance of Good Friday to so many Australians of faith,” Mr Shorten said. A Government spokesperson said the Coalition will not be running any advertising on these holidays and will extend the blackout to Easter Sunday as well.
“While there is agreement with the Opposition on Anzac Day and Good Friday, the same respect should be shown for Easter Sunday and we would expect Labor to suspend their commitment,” the spokesperson said.
